General Information of Saljao RongThong sub-district

  • All parts of Saljao RongThong sub-district are irrigated.
  • 78% of farmers grow rice. 5 crops of rice are planted in 2 years.
  • Soils in general are heavy clay soil, fair in nutrients. pH ranges between 5.0 to 6.0
  • Land topology is uneven. No land readjustment has been done.

Experimental Results of using Voga in rice paddies

  • 25 farmers participated, 5 of which used Voga
  • Growing Method:
    • Plowing, flooding paddy to soften soils
    • Seed usage: 20 kg per Rai (1600 sq.m.)
  • Fertilizing Method
    • First application when rice is 25 days, apply 16-20-0 30 kg per Rai with Voga 10 kg per Rai.
    • Second application when rice is 50 days, apply 46-0-0 15 kg per Rai with Voga 10 kg per Rai.

Harvesting

  • Harvest when rice is 115 days
  • Farmers who used Voga gained 1,200-1,250 kg of rice per Rai
  • Farmers who did not use Voga gained 700-900 kg of rice per Rai.

Famers who used Voga

  • Suwan Thongtuam, 20/1 Moo 10, Saljao Rongthong sub-district, Visetchaicharn district, grows 30 Rai of rice paddy, gained 1,250 kg of rice per Rai.
  • Jamras Kaomeesri, 70 Moo 9, Saljao Rongthong sub-district, Visetchaicharn district, grows 25 Rai of rice gained 1,000 kg of rice per Rai. This field and nearby fields are affected by bacterial leaf blight. Nearby rice fields that did not use Voga gained only 300-500 kg of rice per Rai.
  • Tawee Thumaroj, 44/1 Moo 10, Saljao Rongthong sub-district, Visetchaicharn district, grows 30 rais of rice, gained 1,200 kg of rice per rai.
  • Vichien Sedtee, 68 Moo 8, Saljao Rongthong sub-district, Visetchaicharn district, 40 Rais of rice, gained 1,200 kg of rice per Rai.
  • Yod Anek, 73 Moo 8, Saljao Rongthong sub-district, Visetchaicharn district, 25 Rais of rice, gained 1,200 kg of rice per Rai.

Farmers who did not use Voga

  • Supoj Wongpan, 52/4 Moo 9, Saljao Rongthong sub-district, Visetchaicharn district, 20 Rais of rice, gained 830 kg/Rai.
  • Vichien Onraar, 69/1 Moo 9, Saljao Rongthong sub-district, Visetchaicharn district, 8 Rais of rice gained on average 800 kg/Rai.
  • Tuan Chanpo, 80 Moo 10, Saljao Rongthong sub-district, Visetchaicharn district, 10 Rais of rice go 780 kg of rice per Rai.

Conclusion

  • Voga can increase rice yield and increase plant’s tolerance to disease at a certain level under the condition of limited knowledge, farmer’s practice, and disease outbreak
  • Using Voga with mix-breed rice such as Suphanburi 1, Prathumtani 1 during dry season with favorable conditions, good results are likely to be expected.
